The Great Santini | Stan Morrison - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

The Great Santini | Stan Morrison

twenty-five years in the us army
still got that little boy haircut
wearing fatigues to the commissary
while keeping important contacts
run your household like a drill sergeant
your sadistic fantasy career and life path
canned images of honor, glory and respect
“clean that latreen with a toothbrush, soldier
you’ll be cleaning it every day for a month”
obscene defense budgets for war toy games
parades, holidays for those who gave their lives
for the failures of old men driven by greed
wear your dress uniform to simulate greatness
honoring a lifetime of service to our country
my hero!

Psychopathic Predators Game | Kandice Johnson - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Psychopathic Predators Game | Kandice Johnson

She wasn’t given an option
To live or survive
In an environment of
Demonizing corrupt perplexity
On the outside perfect picture
Who would fathom
Such a thing?
Behind the doors closed
Psychological manipulation
Overshadows her with
All of their
Malevolent darkness
Gas lights flickering
To annihilate her placidity
Tearing her down
Brick by brick
Exposing her nakedness
Weakening her mind
Chipping away who she is
Who she was
Everything she was
Meant to be
She found herself
Fighting for her identity
Searching for clarity
In this blurred reality
Knowing she is not insane
After searching the net
Looking for answers
She discovered
She fell victim of a
Psychopathic Predators Game

The War General | Gareth Culshaw - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

The War General | Gareth Culshaw

Some said he was a hero
with bulletproof chest,
defused mines with a foot.

Others said he was a wife
beater, giving her cheeks bruises
like they were a knot in wood.

Others said he treated his
kids as if they were made
of eggshells.

Some said he beat his
neighbours until their bodies
were like jam inside.

Others said he’s buried without
fault. Some said the soil refused
to cover him up, such was his bile.

Angry Father | Craig Warburton - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Angry Father | Craig Warburton

An open palm descends on back
Dealt with force a hefty smack

Then another just as bad
I’m scared, upset, a broken lad

Stinging skin that’s turned bright red
What goes on inside his head?

For him to hit me quite so hard
Then tell me not to be so mard

The anger in his face so clear
But no way will I shed a tear

The gritted teeth and wild eyed stare
I can’t fight back it’s so unfair

When it stops I’m on my feet
Go to my room, a safe retreat

And only when I close the door
My silent tears fall to the floor

But now I know the signs and when
This scene will play out once again
