Lakeside | Tandem

From my beautiful
lake house you can see
a million years in the future
Friendships lost
many images I thought
would line up
on my side of the lake
A distorted fun house mirror
all the funny cards
my so-called friendships
gave me
On the lake surface
a figure rows alone
he does not know
What he is doing.

Galaxy | Tandem

I am
standing in the
madness swirl
of the rest
of the universe
All I had
to do
was open my
mind
Listen
to leaf whispers
find
the tallest place
Breathe in.

Decade | JD DeHart

It’s been more than
a decade
I’m still learning how to be
still apprentice to myself
Still learning that
to argue takes you nowhere,
just a deserted road
of rambling words, thickets
of verbiage
Still learning that
any narrative
seems to have the theme
of not there yet,
developing as the character
discovers he or she
is someone else, the genre
unclear from the outset
A pin pushing its way
up a mammoth hill,
the sound of breaking
and movement.

Allergy | Tandem

I sneeze
out
Knowing this world
tickles my nose
I have developed
an allergy to other people
One day maybe
I’ll get over it.

Educating | Logan Gilley

We must
learn to be citizens
of the world,
Listen to the narratives
and counter-narratives
of the people,
Pushing back and speaking
in the right places.
