civilization poems

A revelation will
dawn on civilization like
the second coming or the
twelfth hour arrival of the prophecy
promised by various
dusty non-digital books
and this sermon will amount
to a hill of hallelujahs
and certain sects will
say “I told you so”
and others will say
“how could I know?”
and the stoners
and the stone throwers
will unite in a
holographic chant
as they are beamed up
like Spock and Kirk
to a place where
Charlton Heston
shoots flowers from a rifle
and that trifle you
worry your little head about
will be straightened out
like the sheets everyone
will wear wrapped around them
and Bacchus’s wine will flow
on a summer’s day
in the fall
of ideologies both
Western and Eastern
and everything intangible
will be all right

A Tale of Istanbul | Amanda Larasati - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

A Tale of Istanbul | Amanda Larasati

The magnificent Bosphorus smiled at me cheerfully
And the dazzling Kiz Külesi stood in the middle of it profoundly
Beyond it, the majestic Topkapi palace allured me in enchantment
Subsiding all my devastation and resentment
While strolling around, a spellbinding building captivated my attention
I found out Sultanahmet Camii was its name
The manifestation of mankind’s intellectuality and outstanding progression
An epitome of splendour that looks ravishing, graceful, and sublime
Istanbul oh Istanbul
The glorious city where mighty civilizations were established
The witness of how victory was prodigiously accomplished
Encapsulated through blood, sweat, and tears
In the pursuit of dignity and peace
Istanbul oh Istanbul
Sparkling beautifully each day and night
Reviving my spirit with felicity and delight
Redeeming the agony and despondences
To abolish all my inflictions and cries

The River Meanders | Ananya S. Guha - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

The River Meanders | Ananya S. Guha

The bed of river
sands
civilization dead
only the steadfast climbing
of pillars, relics of an ancient
past, steps leading to an
arcade
capturing history in
moments of transgression.
The sea winds by,
couples sit on a bench
loving,
History creeps in timelessness
I watch in upper Assam
temples a carnival of ceremony
a park where they worshipped Lord Shiva,
all along the river meanders,
so does history.
