conventionality poems

Comfort | Kara D. Spain

They find comfort in their familiar group,
laughing at customary jokes
told by the typical, uninteresting comic.
They are safe and secure
in their clique of spindly bodies,
marred by unkempt clothing and disheveled hair.
Nothing upsets this party –
so long as everything stays the same.

Forty | Chris Byrne

As I hit forty I see
No difference, humans
The higher species
Are nothing but bitter
Against their own
When push comes
To shove, they’ll shaft their own
And vilify; greed and jealousy
Take over, brave words taken,
Joining the club, agreeing, mere sheep
Led to the slaughter, one word on social media,
Experts galore they follow like lambs
Wanting to be slaughtered.
