Words Can Sound So Good | Riley Andersen

All those things you said to me that
Weren’t true, I wish you had just
Kept your mouth shut instead of
Confusing me, leading me on,
Making me think something more
Was going on than realistically was.
Words can sound so good but
I found out they can’t always be
Trusted, or believed, if they’re
Coming from someone like you,
The person I thought I could trust
More than anyone in the world.

Thérèse | Ricky Garni

A lonely woman was crossing
a bridge and there was a slight
fog. It was clear from the way
she sat that her heart had been
broken. And if any one of these
three things were never true,
I never would have purchased
the book upon which she rested,
with herself on the cover,
broken hearted.

Leather Winged Angel | Judge Santiago Burdon

Bathroom confessions
Back door redemption
Black moon promise
From a leather winged Angel
Temptations blade
Slicing the tongue of deception
Ego’s fingers in the fan

An avalanche of apathy Envelopes passion blossoms
Buried under a shallow indifference
Swallowed flaws found in perfection
Choking on their taste of shame
One undercooked summer of indiscretion
Results in a fracture of your December promise.
A secret exposed spilling a
Proposition’s poision
Leather winged Angel
Eclipsing forgiveness
Your lace and feathers repossessed
Innocence snarled in the steel branches
Of justice trees
In a forest of ethical treason

Deception | JayM

To End The Day:

What is joy
Asked the bee,
Anything that can enchant my soul
The flower replied.

The abandoned petal laughed
Said,
Brutus was his happiness
He was Caesar.

Ladies of the Night | Colleen Riehl

It’s midday!
a familiar corner
they’re always there
vivid gaudy make up
glittery red
thigh high boots
sparkly
micro mini skirts
with midriff tops…
and always..
seedy smiles

A car pulls alongside.
The occupant
scrutinises
not only faces.
They barter..
a door opens
now there are
two inside.
Is he
a lawyer
doctor
husband
or
someone’s father?

Empty | Jenny Middleton

Treasonous and tumbling as dark
from dark, sugar spinning
a hollow riddle to my flesh,
you mutter as sycamores spiral seeds
to key the earth with promised
growth only to gnash against paved
streets and die.
Bones suck at empty stares
searching the marrow
for the sustenance of stars-
the safe. The fire.

And you are at me
with such emptiness to kill.

Caught | Judy Moskowitz

Caught inside his smile
The way in was welcoming
A smooth and easy glide
Sewn into his cloth
Each thread tight
Hot spot warnings
A trail of suspicion
But I don’t listen
I’m caught inside his smile
Hooked into his song
Brooding black eyes mourn
A runner up
In a maze
Of second hand thoughts
The 5 o’clock shadow
From the night before
Alibis and submission
Caught inside his lies

Sex Lies and Video Tapes | Judy Moskowitz

Spare me your half truths
Whole lies by trying
To cleanse it away
With rhetoric
spare me from your
Fever blister
Sensitive and painful
As it passes along
From your lips
To those falling victim
To your kiss
Spare me the bookshelves
Of guilty pleasures
That continue to exist
Inside the sanctuary City
Of denial
Disconnect me
Pull the extension chord
From the wall and
Spare me

Ode to Illusion | Judy Moskowitz

The great pretender
Will shade you
With a red bulb
Affirm your beliefs
And moral code
A carnival of mirrors
Reflecting a perfect image
depending upon a linear
Or horizontal line
Fooling you with warm
Chicken soup
A liposuction
From unpleasantness
Coveting you under
Its hood and cape
While juxtaposing everything else
The enemy is hidden
Beneath the mask
With no identity
You believe every word
spoken
Every word read
Deeply invested in illusion
A hypnotic spell repeating
Over and over
And over again
Until
