Life on the Cutout Rack – A Poem by Roy Pullam

In the shadows of dreams
There is a moment
Of reality
When attaining
The heart’s wish
Is followed
With the question
Is that all?
When success
Seems like failure
When the most beautiful
Song sounds stale
To the ear
When more
Becomes less
When acclaim
Becomes an anchor
And success
Becomes quicksand
When everyone
Expects more

Glass Half Empty – A Poem by Ian Fletcher

Isn’t life a gift we must not squander
with every moment that we breathe
a precious chance for us to achieve
our worldly goals and dreams?

No, for with every breath we take
and with every choice we make
we merely wander further along
the well-trodden road to death.

Faux – A Poem by Roy Pullam

We are in a revolving door
Sensing what we are
But trying to rotate
In the direction
Of what
We want to be
We reject acceptance
The relative prosperity
With wishes
To be something else
To be
More than who we are
To find the success
Our culture defines
For us
As true and good
It is a misery
To wear clown shoes
We can never fit
To waste our time
Jumping
As high as we can
But never reaching
That impossible dream
But even
If we grasp it
Pulling ourselves
To that level
The pretty bow
Covers a box
Of empty promises
And another ladder
With missing rungs

It Just Doesn't Matter | Debra Sasak Ross

It just doesn’t matter
How many accomplishments you achieve in your lifetime.
How many Sunday services you attend.
How many good deeds you try to do.
How many poems or books you have published.
How many times you’ve said you’re sorry,
Over and over
And over again.
It just doesn’t matter,
Because forgiveness never comes cheap.
It also never comes easy.
Sometimes it never comes at all.
It just doesn’t matter.

Know What? | Roger Still

Know what? I
just don’t care anymore
when all is so
Messed up here. I swear
I have lived four decades
full of stress. Enough.
I’ve had my fill,
taking my vacation from
even what makes sense.
In the words of Billy
Pilgrim, “Poo-tee-weet.”
