The Liars Club | Judy Moskowitz

The creativity of a good lie
Has the shapely legs
Of a dancer that go on forever
A gratifying leap
Into unknown territory
A contortionist
As it stretches and frames
A story in a double jointed
kind of way
Spinning half truths into
Full blown lies
It can juxtapose
Any position turning
Inside out
Causing confusion
Make no mistake
A good lie is
Is a world traveler
Changing its map
As it weaves in and out
Of tight corners
Responding quickly
To dangerous terrains
In its willingness to risk
Writing its way out of jail
I looked at my watch
I’m late again
My liar opened the door
With a smile and said
Honey I’m home

Money | Chris Byrne

We all chase the dream of a better life
Based on an invisible currency
A piece of paper which we place
Higher than ourselves
Value upon something that doesn’t
Really exist it’s just paper yet more
Value is given to this than people
We’re all guilty of bowing to those
In control the ones who got greedy
Making money off a debt
If only we were taught how it
Worked in school
Would we be
Wiser?

The Human Race | Judy Moskowitz

who’s to blame
as mushrooms cloud
a once cantaloupe sky
who’s to blame
when you say yes
and mean no
convictions compromised
who’s to blame
temperaments on fire
burn baby burn
the song of the day
who’s to blame
helpless behind the cage
maimed and broken
who’s to blame
melting ice
floating away
all endangered
who’s to blame

Mr. Deadly Mustache | Tempest Brew

Mr. Deadly Mustache
thinks he knows
the quip to my heart
But he’s no Tom Selleck
not even Bob Saget
who sported no mustache
at all
He’s not even deadly
which I find out
only too late
after listening to his
tall tales a while.

Plunder | Roger Still

Even the sound of the word
reminds of the scooping
of hands deep into sand
Always searching for treasure
gold buried in plain sight
an easy out to escape into
endless riches.

In the Water | Natalie Bentley

Is it something
in the water that tricks
us to be unkind,
to pretend we are summed
up in numbers
on a ledger,
is it something in the water
or in our very nature?

Over the Top | Cattail Jester

I found
the tallest hat
to draw attention
to myself, taller
than any person
could leap.
But there’s always
a taller hat,
a higher jump,
a contender
out to prove
themselves or whatever
they can.
