lack of self-awareness poems

Stop Being So Horrible | Sarina Harding

why is it that you don’t
seem to care about anyone?
why are you so mean?
what did someone do to you?
you do realize that there are
a million other things you
could do instead of trying
to hurt others
get some help
go talk to a therapist
work out your demons
find that place inside you
that is kind and giving
heal your insides so
you can stop being so horrible

Unresolved Issues | Tamara Sommers

It’s almost like you have no idea
What you did to me, how you
Reduced me to tears and destroyed
My being, stepped on my joy
And turned it into refuse,
Made me feel so small,
All because you didn’t know how
To get over all your garbage and
Stop putting it on me,
I seriously doubt you’ll every
Realize the effect you have
On other people, the only thing
That matters is you protecting
Your unconscious, unresolved issues.

What’s the Matter | Nate Maye

What’s the matter
he asks
but we know

we have heard him
speak and spill
his insults

guffaw at his own
dark jokes
knowing what is wrong
with this world
is attitudes like that.

Irony at Its Finest | Chris Byrne

The only thing the world
Needs is more love
Yet we go out of our
Way to hurt and destroy
The people that matter the most,
Yet we think we are
The dominant species
Who think know what love is,
If we truly did would we destroy it?

Your Mask | Thomas Ode

I don’t know about
your mask, what that
says about you,
the angry multiplicity
of colonized voices that
try to force you in
a working corner, I don’t
even know about my
own oppressor mask,
how it looks, how often
I use it.

Consumed | Guy Farmer

So consumed are they
By their toxic vitriol
That they don’t
Understand their’s
Is not the only,
And surely not the
Healthiest, perspective.

Suburbia | Guy Farmer

The number of days
I was awakened from
A peaceful slumber by
The roaring din of
An angry malcontent out
To satisfy only his own
Needs at the expense
Of others’ well-being,
Unable to care for
Anyone, including himself.
A blustering cacophony of
Insecurity,
Barely contained rage,
Immeasurable
Unhappiness,
Typical suburbia.

Tell the Truth | Angelica Fuse

For once
be honest

with yourself
with everyone

what needs to be
fixed
is also broken
in you

too much sexism
hatred
homophobia
racism
general darkness

lives right
under our society’s
surface.
