A Different Era | Donal Mahoney - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

A Different Era | Donal Mahoney

In the fourth grade
too many moons ago
a reassuring teacher
looked over my shoulder
and said not to worry about
some mistake on my paper.
She said that’s why
we have erasers.
Now a teacher assures
my grandson
in the same grade
not to worry
about his mistake.
She tells him that’s
why we have
a delete key.

Death in the Sun | Jim Bellamy - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Death in the Sun | Jim Bellamy

ahh
out of the death in the sun, when time was out of love
and the cares of the countless soul
lay riven in the seed of this zero earth,
over this barbed law and the war that comes hereafter
to dedication to the self and the salt moon in burning,
man who is woman denies no rain.

ohh
for the heart and the rent child and the mourning star
and the spurs of the world gone over
where Love knows the river cannot run
nor shall the fablers in their dark rooms of booming
break the silent tomb nor charge the signs of light
neither can the stars declaim their shine.

and
as much as the world that breeds for summer’s aether
will never shape what murder gasses night,
the death in the sun in its never-ending run
might purr for dreams or else deny the winter’s rage.
and the wracked words of the birds gone blind
decry this sullen death or else go mad.

For You | Stan Morrison - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

For You | Stan Morrison

how long is sadness supposed to last
when can longing yield to a new love
when will these dark clouds evaporate
into gossamer moons in a starry sky
and the weather forecast signal spring

as long as I sign up too be inspired
and delight in the effort of being
as long as chances for still chase me
as long as my shell remains permeable
whenever I surrender to your embrace
while I am helplessly lost in the moment

The Fan Club | Judy Moskowitz - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

The Fan Club | Judy Moskowitz

Something has invaded
My psyche
Playing love songs
To my ego
Clawing its way
To the frontal lobe
As it masturbates my mind
From shallow waters to
Exultant jubilee
Making deals
Of quid pro quo
Words unread
With a half moon smile
Blurring the lines
A closed button hole
With a commanding voice
To like the page
Or blood will flow
From hatchets
Without a face
The neighborhood changing
Cut and paste

Cosmos | Stan Morrison - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Cosmos | Stan Morrison

a different sun sun shines since you’ve gone
cooler, more remote, no longer reassuring
in your absence, shooting stars defervesce
san lorenzo in august, gemini in december
meaningless, joyless, tiresome, so boring
seasons all pass without warning or notice
our sun has fatally burned from the heavens
castigating skies sentence me to remember
