solitude poems

Island | Ciarán Parkes

A lake the size
of a small room

an island no bigger
than a single bed

when you set out in your boat
you’ve already arrived

to lie on your back
beneath a dazzling sun

so small you can blot it out
with one finger

Environment | Stan Morrison

Solitude is the welcome catalyst for my creativity
The clutter of familiar objects is so reassuring
Vulnerability and spontaneity my trusted allies

Flattery insinuates itself as a malignant disruptor
Some unwelcome intruder in the private process
Conceit and deceit are the eternal collaborators
