Little Boxes | Marlena Nicole Guzman

When I was young I found my thoughts wandering,
I found my mind adrift in the simplicity of heart beats and
exhalations,
I found the dawning and falling of the day astounding, how inspired my
fancies were, how light, how silly,
These were the passings of my tiny world, limited by the extent of my
imagination
Bound by nothing but the limitations of what could not be fathomed,
Was I not better?
How unpoisoned my dreams by the stifling world of the grown ups and
their perceptions and disillusions of conformity,
Little boxes,
Little boxes that shrink with age, trapping the fantasies and
suffocating the life of limitless possibilities.
