Eight Haikus Composed after Midnight | Harris Coverley

Drunks are still howling
Those lost bodies in the rain
Looking for a god

I hear the zoomings
Of those engines passing by
Zooming—Zumming—Zompf

The house still rumbles
Set’ling slowly on raw earth
The endless journey

I twist and I turn
But the stars are still too loud
To the window called

Rain mist coats the world
Sky opaque in Autumn’s night
But hear them I still

Other worlds’ suns cry
I can do nothing but wait
For the break of dawn

I slink back to bed
Close my eyes and close my mind
To the realm above

Drifting, away, off
I do remember you Void
You are like this night
