Hunting Hearts | Daniel Klawitter

We stalk one another
and circle—
sniffing the air.

Tense yet tender hunters
in skins of fear we ripple
shine
skirt the edge of tears
and
pounce
fang and claw.

You rip into my shoulder—
Ah! Break me open, love
for that is the law
of the forest.

I want to feel it all,
my head full of rain and
thunder.

Your trembling and I
shudder in the pleasure
of non-escape.

Devoured by you for days,
ravaged with the way you taste
so delicious!

Hunt my heart
roaming
among the wild thickets.

Chase the pale moon down
to the water and feast
on my kisses
with eyes wide open,
mouths foaming.

We lick our wounds together
lying in the tall grass and
how you make me laugh, my love—
after a hard day of hunting.
