Parallel Love | Pragati Gupta

I saw them grazing their fingers
entwined in love,
yet conscious to the core
of the worldly accusations
that have witnessed the deaths of their kind
to fulfill honours and rituals.
I saw them independent enough,
enriching the shoreline
with their green lullaby,
to seduce the patched heart
where love’s haemoglobin
seems reduced to vent the unheated anguish
of the times.
Parallel they were,
uninclined to extract scandals,
watering each other’s growth
in their cell’s cove,
the axe and its ungranted permission.
The guest shrubs clapped,
to celebrate the uneyed mishap
and the bird flew silently to its abode.
