The culling of scars
is all some of us have
proof of where we’ve been
and just how hard
it is to keep a head above water
when your whole life is an ocean
like a wild thing
that can’t find its gentleness
anymore
I turn to you
flame scented
and tattered
pointing at my heart
it’s what’s missing
