Prayer for Donnie at the End of the Line | Stan Morrison - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Prayer for Donnie at the End of the Line | Stan Morrison

I’m just a lonesome narcissistic salesman
Wandering this country. hawking my wares
Selling my useless medicines. miracle cures
And the purple pills to get everything right
Wherever I travel I attract needy crowds
Loving good news no matter how absurd
But now I seem to be running out of road
Dear Daddy, please help your simple son
Such a close call, near the end of the line

My helpless weak and sinful sales son
Don’t dare try your own miracle cures
You’re worse off than the needy crowds
I’m all out of the untraceable solutions
I see that you have now run out of road
So long, sappy, this is the end of the line

White Lie | Anna Kander - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

White Lie | Anna Kander

wave it like a white flag, surrendering

with handshakes and smiles
so *civil*

project upon it red and blue patriotism

stars like ordnance exploding
stripes like prison bars

(truth, held captive)

parade it like a memory

celebrating men who slaughtered brothers
to enslave

(sense, held captive)

whisper, like wind whipping fabric:

the emperor’s new flag still has no colors

whisper, like rending garments:

the problem is not one man, elected
the problem is a tyrannous minority who sustains him
the problem is small men chasing votes

stuffing our futures
like paper scraps into ballot boxes

(humanity, held captive)

wave the white lie, blank as a black screen

like electronic voting machines swallowing code
returning unverifiable results

the next war will not be civil

Shifting Gears | Stan Morrison - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Shifting Gears | Stan Morrison

no more about the liar-in-chief
the idea is so averse to new verses
no more bestowing of cleverness
no gold rings for the nose of this pig
writing cannot undo mass hypnosis
it’ll never change minds of the duped
no need for facts, as a matter of fact
I’ll just keep my sights aimed higher
with humor and hope and humanity
