Neighborhood Disturbance | Daniel Klawitter

Who knew
it would come to this?

Certainly not you
nor the birds twittering in the tree.

Or the squirrel
fidgeting by the flowerpot–

or the rain
in the rainbow–

no, not even me.
Not even I could have guessed

the things confessed by others
carried on the gossip of a breeze.

But we just sat there,
quiet as leaves–
listening

when the disturbance
suddenly ceased.

Everyone was waiting
on everyone else

to see who might call
the police.

Unpeaceful Coexistence | Stan Morrison - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Unpeaceful Coexistence | Stan Morrison

Like blades of grass seeking the sun
Through cracks in the sidewalks
Beneath the asphalt and cement
There is a silent reticulum of trees
With roots insinuating themselves
Through chemotaxis, extending freely
Reminding us of our unwelcome intrusions
Arrogantly indifferent to urban planning
Mindless of public utilities and pipelines
Raising chunks of sidewalks, cracking streets
Announcing the truth of their genetic nature
