Doomsday Clock | G. Louis Heath

Who has the verve for social justice?
Who has the nerve to dare think and

act on a thought ticking us back to a
future more than three minutes to mid-

night? Who will lift a hand to that
Gloomy Clock? When will living flesh

rebel against Organized Death? Who
will end this grim meaninglessness?

Rise Rats, Rise! | Dave 1289 - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Rise Rats, Rise! | Dave 1289

It should be a privilege to steer the ‘great’ ship,
not freewill to pillage and sell and betray.
The spoon of the privileged scoops only to gain,
like pirates they strip all our assets away

They kill off our lifeline: protection and health
and drown out the warning of social destruct.
Their privatisation is pleasing their greed,
so now we’re in need of a social erupt

‘Cause rats in battalions slay silver-spooned
stallions and now it is our time to rise!
We’ll bring down these fat cats, and make right their
wrong acts; together, we will turn the tide.

Enslaved by systemic poisonous feed,
ensuring the rats can’t get near the elite.
In black, tax-payed limos they deal for the few
as globalised greed eats up homes on our street

They just keep on pushing the unjust divide
and burn all our bridges so riches can thrive.
While building their walls to keep out the reaper,
the rats keep on racing but now we must rise

‘Cause rats in battalions slay silver-spooned
stallions and now it is our time to rise!
We’ll bring down these fat cats, and make right their
wrong acts; together, we will turn the tide.

Deceit and deception the soil for their seed
but rats cannot ask or reap what they sow:
a harvest to feed their insatiable want.
They twist at the truth to protect all they grow

The artery to the heart of corruption
and we need to block their unjustly flow…
They sell plastic promise; the price is neglect.
We must ensure that it’s their time to go.

So rise rats, rise!

A Pediatrician's Wish | Stan Morrison - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

A Pediatrician's Wish | Stan Morrison

I wish for a world free of child-soldiers
with no land mines, no nuclear bombs and no guided missiles
sent by misguided leaders, demonizing others, stocking arsenals
a world where people prevail over profits
and education uses up the defense budgets
a world of loving neighborhoods
without betrayal, abuse or neglect
no little girls forced into pregnancy
to please old men without ambition.

I wish for a world where politicians become agents of mercy
guided by the universal precepts of abundance and charity
with policies stated in simple sentences without deceit
a world of clean air, clean water and clear skies above
where Dr. King’s dreams materialize with no compromise
where everyone’s talents naturally flourish
dream your own fabulous dreams
sleeping safely in your cozy beds.

A World Too Dark Too Often | Donal Mahoney - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

A World Too Dark Too Often | Donal Mahoney

Julie owns a cat that roams.
Recently he’s been stopping at
Jack and Brenda’s house where
Brenda’s mourning her cat’s death.
Brenda cries except when Julie’s cat
comes around. Tuffy is his name

When Tuffy visits Brenda’s house
he never wants to leave.
He thinks he’s gone to heaven.
He gets tuna, milk and a
forever petting that turns his
purring up full throttle.
Brenda loves to hear it.

Jack finally tells Julie her cat’s
bonded with his wife and
he doesn’t know what to do.
He takes Tuffy home and the cat
comes back again the next day.
But Julie isn’t disturbed at all.
She visits Brenda and tells her
Tuffy’s your cat from now on,

a gift from one heart to another.
Brenda weeps with joy and starts
petting Tuffy who drools and purrs
like a train coming out of a tunnel.
Jack’s amazed to see the light
one act of kindness can shine
on a world too dark too often.
