Meaningless Existence | Michael Andreas - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Meaningless Existence | Michael Andreas

i’m not sure what you were trying to accomplish
by not looking in those dark corners

they weren’t going to go away
things like that can’t be ignored into oblivion

instead you chose to live a shallow, meaningless existence
never getting close to anyone

surrounded by many unsuspecting people
all of whom would build up your unhealthy ego

the people who most matter kept at arm’s length
to eventually walk away

Where Have All the Children Gone? | Renee' Drummond-Brown - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Where Have All the Children Gone? | Renee' Drummond-Brown

They left the womb
GROWN
And
All alone
Long time passing
Aimlessly
They roam
To and fro
Texting
Becomes ‘their’ god(s)
Social media
Front Row
Center
And
None other than
Tweeting
Facades’
Communication’s
‘HARD’
Politics???
Well ‘ya’ know
Non-existent
For ‘dat’
Freedom riders ‘plight’
The right to vote???
Hmmh
‘Deeze’ kids???
Want None o’ ‘dat’
Right.
‘Day’ only want the ‘WRITE’
To ‘WRITE’
Text messaging
Mid flight
Where have all the children gone?
They’re lost in iPhone zones

The Upcoming Fall Shows | Stan Morrison - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

The Upcoming Fall Shows | Stan Morrison

ban golf and tennis from the screen
poker, texas hold’em not to be seen
disbar ninety-percent of tv judges
no more family spats and grudges
dude, take away the family feud
as a quiz show, it’s way too crude
for the real housewives of anywhere
the end to white wine, pulling hair
stop with the news anchors tricks
side-bar jokes and running shticks
no bland reports of government crimes
with their lies and coverups at all times
stifle stories of mass shootings spun
with sham indignation, nothing’s done
86 on prince nebula, the weather man
with cloudy forecasts and sprayed-on tan
this is a wish list of shows not to be
sadly it’s finally up to the fcc

A Black-Tie Affair | Renee' Drummond-Brown - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

A Black-Tie Affair | Renee' Drummond-Brown

To dress up a lie; one must never forget Mr. Mac and Cover Girl shades to mask them big black beautiful eyes! Not to worry tough…them skin tight britches hides your children(S) name(S) as known as ‘THE’ STRETCH MARK STITCHES (from sea to shining seas). The red lipstick shades over ALL the men(S) you’ve been kissing. The cleavage showing; mask the breast loads of sorrows and the entire NOT sew knowing nothing… that your garments harbor. The 8-inch stilettos heighten the lies from 4 foot 2, to the 6 ft. 9 plain-view disguise. Dressed to kill…Ain’t a hard pill to swallow when the apparel is rented, stolen; let loaned borrowed. Go-on girl-strike a pose…awe yeah-SNAP! Naw 2-snaps!! Vogue knows. Vogue, sho nuff knows her designer’s lying one of a kind$. Baby you got swag. Do you have one in my size? Size 2. I swear (pinky crossed-but imma try it on for size anyhow-An’ squeeze into it too…LOL)! Just sayin; just sayin…Awe shucks I ain’t playin!! But… I too wanna hide my futuristic lies. And from where I sit…the Red Carpet knows just what to do to change a cunning size 9 into a voluptuous size 2.

The Aesthetic Black Woman | Lamin Jargon Fadera - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

The Aesthetic Black Woman | Lamin Jargon Fadera

I saw your beautiful long eyelashes
I thought of a person from India
I saw your eyes white and clear
I thought of a British lady
I saw your hair down to the waist
I said the Brazilian queen had arrived
I saw long decorated nails on your fingers
My mind went to Katy Perry
I saw your pink lips
I began to wonder if there was a new ethnicity
Little did I know that
Behind the long eyelashes were extensions
Behind those white clear eyes was a solution bought from a pharmacy
The long hair belonged to a Brazilian lady
Behind the red lips was a mark rouge
My hopes became a mirage
Speechless you left me, very soon you will be priceless
Hopeless you left me, no wonder you are valueless
Where do you hide your African beauty
Where is that glowing black
Why do you paint the beauty that is free
Do you forget the cost of cosmetics
Furthermore it is temporal
Remove all that decoration
What is left is the original you
The aesthetic black woman
You don’t need to borrow your appearance
You don’t need the make-up
Why do you hide behind the cosmetics
Though you doubt your beauty
You are the most sparkling woman on earth
Please leave the makeup
In the wardrobe
