A Beautiful Woman | David P. Carroll

You’re the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen
In my life, My heart’s pounding
Gazing into your eyes
I’m suddenly in love…..
Your kiss so full of love,
Your soft touch, your warm heart your sweet voice…
I’ve fallen in love….

A Dream | Fotoula Reynolds

A dream dropped me on a hilltop
As simple as it was beautiful
White clouds tinged with blue
And I wondered – Is this all there is?

Down in the valley where laughter cried
Birds forgot where to fly
And blades of grass swayed
Without fear of being wrong

A dream dropped me on a hilltop
And flung me backward through
To a time when my life
Had bubbled with ideas

Dry and dependant on tears
My eyes just wanted to keep seeing

A Better Person | Kenneth Eaton

I found out the hard way
That if I went against what he said
I would find myself fighting
A battle for my life, ostracized,
Belittled, slandered by someone
Who didn’t really care about me,
Only about preserving his own status,
Keeping the secret hidden about
How he really is, and doing anything
To make sure everyone sides with him
And nobody ever knows the truth.
So I find myself shunned but
Grateful that I finally get to live
My own life, away from
All that horribleness,
Choosing my own path and
Who I spend time with,
Not doing the things he does,
Being a better person than
He wants me to be.

Stop Being So Horrible | Sarina Harding

why is it that you don’t
seem to care about anyone?
why are you so mean?
what did someone do to you?
you do realize that there are
a million other things you
could do instead of trying
to hurt others
get some help
go talk to a therapist
work out your demons
find that place inside you
that is kind and giving
heal your insides so
you can stop being so horrible

A Predictable Life | Donal Mahoney

He was predictable
all those years
going home after work
doing odd jobs
around the house
getting ready for
work the next day.

He remained predictable
after the divorce
going home after work
doing odd jobs
getting ready for
work the next day.

He was still predictable
after he lost his job
applying for benefits
and looking for work
doing odd jobs
around the house
looking for work
the next day.

He wasn’t predictable
after his benefits ran out
and the bank foreclosed
and he had to sell the car
and move to the streets.

He sleeps in hallways now
washes dishes in a diner
for breakfast and lunch
and a few dollars to spend
at McDonald’s for dinner.

He’s predictable again
but he has no home
works harder for less
and can’t vote this year.
He has no address.

Driving across Kansas | Daniel Klawitter

Driving through Kansas is like driving in a giant bowl of corn flakes. Good thing I have a car shaped like a spoon. Jarod Kintz
The sky here is immense and there is no escape.
With nothing to stop the horizon, one can only gape
At the endless flatness — and await the intense
Relentless shades of sunset. That’s the best part —
The sunsets that go from apocalyptic pink to murderous red.
And believe me — you’ll wish you were dead
Before you reach your final destination.
Driving through Kansas will drive you to madness.
Avoid it — that’s my recommendation.

Sermon | Cattail Jester

Now listen
to my lyrical story
of how to get it right

If they say
you’re being didactic
just roll with it

There’s a way
to treat others and baby
this ain’t it.
