Vision Quest | Lenore Rosenberg

When the ocean rises, the seashore
disappears, the water never dousing fires
burning on in the beach. The white sands
are charred and black and the pretty little
girl freezes, howls caught in her throat.

When the earth is scorched by fires,
birds flee to other shores and bears
growl out of their caves, limited to
charred, bitter, exoskeletons of food,
their strength impaled, like the girlā€™s.

When she calls after the storm,
I strain to listen for fragments
of fear, my heart still aching after
all these years to make it better,
and my blind mindā€™s eye sheds tears

Life | Abigail Ayornu - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Life | Abigail Ayornu

Life, life is a long way to go.
It’s like a train journeying towards a direction.
Some make it to their destinations.
Others get stuck on the way

Life, life is a race.
Like taking off in a marathon.
People get to the finish line.
Others do not get there.

Who is to blame?
Absolutely nobody but yourself.
The way you handle it
Gives a thought of how you succeed.

Shifting Gears | Stan Morrison

no more about the liar-in-chief
the idea is so averse to new verses
no more bestowing of cleverness
no gold rings for the nose of this pig
writing cannot undo mass hypnosis
it’ll never change minds of the duped
no need for facts, as a matter of fact
I’ll just keep my sights aimed higher
with humor and hope and humanity

Age | Susy - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Age | Susy

They told me Iā€™m old.
How old?
Have the stars touched down yet, bringing their melted beings to me?
Has the moon turned a thousand more times around so someone sees though the darkened pit?
Can I move without touching the blinded gravel that feels no rage now?
I am old in my eyes, my heart unseen.
Bring me toys of youth, bring me laughter. Help me. I am old they say, too old to stay.

Broken | William Swales - Contemporary Poetry Website Featuring Notable Poems

Broken | William Swales

ALONE BY FAULT
AN OPEN WOUND
UNHEALED DIRTY
FILLED WITH SALT

JUST WAITING WANTING
FORSAKEN ALONE
WANDERING SEARCHING
A PLACE, HOME

COLD, SCARED
SCARRED
BUT YEARNING
HEART WAITING, BARRED

ADDICTED I THINK
MISSING THE PAIN
MY HEART MY SLEEVE
THE BLOOD THE STAIN

A BARREN SHELL
COVERED IN SKIN
SELECTIVE PICKY
WHO I LET IN

BUT I MISS YOU
PAIN HEARTBREAK
YOU MUST BE SPECIAL
FOR MY FUTURE ACHE
